PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a search support system realizing inexpensive full search of a search object in the preferential search range of a client while preventing the information for specifying the search object from being known by a third person such as a person possessing a portable communication terminal, and to provide a portable communication terminal for realizing that search support system. SOLUTION: The search support system comprises a plurality of short range wireless units 10, a plurality of portable telephone terminals (i.e. portable communication terminals) 20, a mobile communication network having a plurality of portable telephone base stations 30 and a controller 60, a search center server 40, and a search client terminal 50 and searches for a dog 1-2 by using the search object identification data of a search object (e.g. the dog 1-2) specified by the search client. The search object identification data includes type identification data for specifying its type (i.e. specifying a dog), and feature identification data for specifying features inherent to that dog 1-2. Since the portable telephone terminal 20 has a GPS unit, positional information of the portable telephone terminal 20 is transmitted to the search client terminal 50 after communication between the portable telephone terminal 20 and the short range wireless unit 10 fixed to the dog 1-2.
