PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an effective method for treating and preventing mucositis. SOLUTION: The method of treating, inhibiting or preventing the mucositis in a human patient includes a step for administering a therapeutic composition having activities as an MMP inhibitor and an NO inhibitor. In one embodiment, the method further includes a step for administering an NSAID, which is a COX-1 or COX-2 inhibitor, and in another embodiment, the COX-1 inhibitors are indomethacin and flurbiprofen. In another embodiment, the method includes a step for administering an inflammatory cytokine inhibitor selected from the group consisting of an IL-6 inhibitor, a TNF-αinhibitor, an IL-1 inhibitor, and an interferon-γinhibitor besides them.
