PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a running board device capable of freely selecting the installation position of a drive means while reducing an installation space for the drive means as much as possible. SOLUTION: The running board device is equipped with a running board body which can advance and retreat between a projection position projecting from the side surface 3a of a vehicle body to the outside and a retreated position retreated from the side surface 3a of the vehicle body to the inside, and a drive means 2 driving advancing/retreating of the running board body 1. The drive means 2 has a rope-like body 8 connected to the running board body 1, a rotating drum 12 having the rope-like body 8 to be wound, and a drive motor 9 driving to rotate the rotating drum 12.
