[Also in Division B7] Stacking apparatus comprises endless chains 14, 15 encircling wheels 10, 11, 12 (wheel 10 being driven), and members 16 pivoted at 40 to each chain, lifting elements 19 on members 16 underly opposite ends of an article 30 which is received on a roller conveyer 26 of a width less than article 30, the lifting elements when moving downwardly engage a stacking platform 27 or an article thereon and being moved thereby against a spring 20, Fig. 6, to disengage from the article. Each member 16 has a supporting arm 17, Fig. 2, and a steadying arm 18 having rollers 22 engaging tracks 23, 24, the pivot 40 extending through slots 25 in arms 17, 18 so that the weight of members 16 is taken by track 24 in the lowest part of the track. Platform 27 is wheeled and runs on tracks 28. Two limit switches, not shown, detect the correct positioning of articles 30, one detects the correct positioning of platform 27 and one indicates when the correct number of articles on platform 27, to stop the apparatus accordingly. In Figs. 7, 8, not shown, a single chain carries U -shaped members each arm of which has lifting elements.
