The invention relates to a method of switching packets in a transmission medium comprising multiple stations which are connected using different links. The invention is characterised by the establishment of different links (9, 10, 11 and 12) in one or more media, whereby different communication characteristics exist in one medium, and by a link-associated frame-switching method. The invention can be used to transmit frames from one piece of equipment (2) that is connected to a transmission medium (1) to any other piece of equipment that is connected to said medium (4, 5, 6 and 7) even if there is no direct link therebetween, all of the aforementioned process being performed in level 2 of the OSI model.
