A process for the formation of functional layers on an inorganic or organic substrate comprises treatment of the substrate with a low temperature plasma, corona discharge, energetic radiation or flame, application of an activatable initiator having least one function regulating group for the incorporation of desired surface properties to the substrate and heating of the coated substrate and/or irradiation with electromagnetic waves. A process for the formation of functional layers on an inorganic or organic substrate comprises: (a) treatment of the substrate with a low temperature plasma, corona discharge, energetic radiation or flame; (b) application of an activatable initiator optionally with an ethylenically unsaturated compound in the form of a melt, solution, suspension or emulsion whereby the initiator and/or ethylenically unsaturated compound have at least one function regulating group for the incorporation of desired surface properties to the substrate and; (c) heating of the coated substrate and/or irradiation with electromagnetic waves with incorporation of the desired surface properties. Independent claims are included for: (1) the resulting substrate with functional layers and; (2) resulting coated products. |
