<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pinch roller for drawing a glass preform, which has high thermal resistance and sufficient stretchability and flexibility and does not give a bad effect to the contact face with a drawing roller of a glass rod. <P>SOLUTION: In a drawing apparatus of a glass preform where a glass preform is heated and softened in a heating furnace, pinched with a pinch roller and drawn into a glass rod with a smaller diameter, a surface material consisting of 65-80 wt.% of an inorganic substance and the remainder of an organic substance is placed at the part where the pinch roller comes into contact with the glass rod. As the surface material, a heat resistant woven cloth, preferably that containing an inorganic fiber with an alumina content of≤10 wt.% or that containing an inorganic fiber with a silica content of≤75 wt.%, is used. A thermal resistant woven cloth composed of glass fiber and PBO (polyparaphenylene benzobisoxazole) is also usable. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
