PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of a cataphoresis phenomenon by controlling a high-frequency leakage current in a lighting circuit. SOLUTION: This discharge lamp lighting device is provided with: the lighting circuit for lighting a discharge lamp La with high-frequency waves; and a leakage current suppressing means for suppressing a leakage current flowing between the discharge lamp La and an appliance body 10 in lighting the discharge lamp La. The lighting circuit is provided with: a rectifier DB1for rectifying A.C. power AC; a chopper circuit CHP for subjecting the output of the rectifier DB1to DC-DC conversion; and an inverter circuit INV for subjecting the output of the chopper circuit CHP to DC-AC conversion. A capacitor C01connected between the inverter circuit INV and the appliance body 10 for bypassing a high-frequency component is used for the leakage current suppressing means.
