PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress an increase in a manufacturing cost while improving the startability of an internal combustion engine in a decompression device for the internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a valve train operating hydraulic line 50 for supplying oil to an operating chamber 49 communicated with the high pressure chamber 64 of a lash adjuster 45 by a motor-driven oil pump 48, a decompression hydraulic line 52 for supplying oil to a decompression chamber 51 so as to push-press the lash adjuster 45 to a rocker arm 44 side by the motor-driven oil pump 48, and a hydraulic selector valve 53 for changing over these hydraulic lines 50, 52. When an engine is started, an engine starting/stopping pattern is set up by the hydraulic selector valve 53, and the valve train operating hydraulic line 50 and decompression hydraulic line 52 are opened.
