PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a female spline shaft with an oil reservoir which prevents large increase in manufacturing costs and enhances lubricant retentivity and which is suitable for mass production, and a female spline shaft manufactured thereby. SOLUTION: In a peripheral groove 32 formed in a state of an intermediate material W1, a groove width B and a groove depth D are reduced to be left as traces even after forming a female spline 34 by a die, which function as an oil sump 35 of lubricating oil. Whenever an extendable shaft relatively slides, therefore, the lubricating oil from the oil reservoir 35 is supplied to a tooth surface of the spline so as to secure lubricating performance.
