PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new hyperuricemia preventive and therapeutic composition that is useful for preventing and improving hyperuricemia.

SOLUTION: This invention provide a nuclease inhibitor that includes alginic acid or its derivative as an active ingredient. This invention further provides a composition or a food product that can prevent or improve hyperuricemia or other diseases caused by hyperuricemia including alginic acid or its derivative as an active ingredient. In an specific embodiment, the M/G ratio of the alginic acid or its derivative is in the range of from 1.5 to 2.0.
