<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a polarizing plate having little light leakage and excellent adhesion property of a polarizing film by using a specified cellulose acylate film as a protective film for the polarizing plate, to produce a protective film of a polarizing plate or an optical compensation film having excellent viewing angle characteristics by using the above cellulose acylate film, and to provide a liquid crystal display device using them. <P>SOLUTION: The cellulose acylate film is characterized in that when two sheets of cellulose acylate films are overlapped with the respective maximum refractive index directions perpendicular to each other and retardation is measured, retardations in all directions with respect to incident light at 45° oblique angle from a normal line are ≤15 nm or lower.
