PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain full cleaning by suitably setting a mutual relationship of surface tensions of an ejection face, ink and a head liquid, and efficiently and surely eliminating an ink residue from the ejection face in a method wherein cleaning of the ejection face is carried out by supplying the head liquid to the surface (ejection face) of the inkjet head with ink ejection openings formed therein, and performing the wiping action. SOLUTION: The head liquid is supplied to the ink residue on the ejection face, whereby both are mixed. The ink residue is taken into the head liquid. The ink and the head liquid whose surface tensions are both higher than the surface tension of the ejection face are used. Wetting with the ejection face of an ink residue dissolved substance is reduced, and the ink residue dissolved substance moves smoothly by the wiping action. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
