PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal head unit which eliminates a joint and a pipe arranged at one side of a heat sink, and facilitates replacement of a thermal head that has an ink ribbon and a heating element. SOLUTION: The thermal head unit 1 is equipped with both the thermal head 2 which includes the heating element 2b, and a cooling member 3 which cools the thermal head with a cooling medium passage 3c inside for feeding and discharging a cooling medium. A discharge opening 3e of the cooling medium passage 3 is formed at a surface equal or adjacent to the surface of the cooling member 3 where a suction opening 3d of the cooling medium passage 3c is formed.
