FIELD: rolled stock production, namely cooling of coiled hot rolled strips. ^ SUBSTANCE: coiled hot rolled strips are cooled by means of water-air mixture. Method comprises steps of supplying sprinkled water into central cavity of coils; with use of directed flow of air organizing such motion of water-air mixture that at output of said cavity cooling mixture flows around surface of coils bases. Apparatus for performing the method includes mounts for strip coils provided with openings for feeding air to inner cavity of coils and arranged vertically one over another; inter-mount spacers; upper lids for organizing air discharge along bases of coils; nozzles for generating water-air mixture. Said nozzles are arranged in openings for feeding air to inner cavity of coils and they are connected with branch pipes to which water and air are fed under pressure. ^ EFFECT: shortened time period for cooling coiled strips with possibility of equalizing values of physical and mechanical parameters of metal along strip length. ^ 2 cl, 3dwg, 1 tbl
