PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display apparatus capable of radiating heat generated by a light source without affecting the performance of components in a housing, and also, capable of preventing an object near the outside of the apparatus from being heated up to a high temperature. SOLUTION: Regarding the projection type display apparatus having the light source, a light valve, a projection optical system, a reflection mirror and a screen in the housing, at least a part of the housing is composed of a hollow wall, and the hollow wall functions as a radiation wall for radiating the heat generated by the light source.
