The invention relates to a press fitting system for creating an unremovably sealed connection between smooth-ended pipes. Said press fitting system comprises at least one section that is embodied in a collar-type manner and at least one bead which is located approximately on the terminal side of the collar-type section and accommodates at least one annular, rubber-elastic sealing element ( 5 ). The inventive press fitting system is characterized by groove-shaped channels ( 9 ) which communicate with each other like a maze in the unpressed state of the sealing element in which ( 5 ) run through at least some areas of the surface of the sealing element ( 5 ), the channels ( 9 ) being pressed against each other in an occluding manner when the sealing areas ( 8 ) interrupted by the channels ( 9 ) are in the pressed state.
