<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exposure apparatus and an exposure method for a printing plate by which no preparation work is required every time of exchanging printing original plates but the exposure work can be continuously repeated, and no special material such as inert gas is required to use. <P>SOLUTION: The exposure apparatus for a printing plate to expose a radical polymerizable printing original plate to recording light includes an exposure head to irradiate a printing original plate with predetermined modulated recording light; a plurality of carrying roller pairs disposed opposing the exposure head for rotating as holding the printing original plate to carry the plate; and an airtight chamber for housing the plurality of carrying roller pairs and having an exposure window which transmits the recording light exiting from the exposure head. The airtight chamber is divided into a primary reduced pressure chamber and a secondary reduced pressure chamber by the above carrying roller pairs.
