<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector in which drastic degradation in light utilization efficiency is averted even when smooth and good-quality moving picture display is required. <P>SOLUTION: The projector 1000 is equipped with: an illumination apparatus 100 having plane shape where respective first small lenses in a first lens array 120 are compressed in a y-axis direction; liquid crystal devices 400R, 400G and 400B; and a projection optical system 600. It is further equipped with: a light shielding member 700 arranged at a position optically nearly conjugate to the first small lenses between the illumination apparatus and the liquid crystal devices, and the liquid crystal devices, and shaping the form of the cross section of illumination luminous flux; and a rotary prism 770 making the illumination luminous flux from the light shielding member scan along in the y-axis direction on the image formation region of the liquid crystal device in synchronization with the screen writing frequency of the liquid crystal device. The light shielding member 700 has a stray light removing member 704 reflecting reflected light from the light incident surface of the rotary prism to a direction different from the rotary prism. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
