<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of transesterification for producing a (meth)acrylate ester monomer. <P>SOLUTION: The method comprises (a) forming a reaction mixture comprising water, an alkyl(meth)acrylate, an alcohol and a polymerization inhibitor, (b) conducting an azeotropic distillation until the water content of the reaction mixture comes to 1,200 ppm or less, (c) adding at least two charges of a transesterification catalyst to the resultant reaction mixture and (d) heating the resulting reaction mixture to 60°C or higher. Alternatively, this method involves utilizing multiple charges of the transesterification catalyst.
