PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiver which sharply reduces the amount of operations of a signal separation algorithm used by a MIMO system, and also to provide a method of receiving. SOLUTION: The receiver which constitutes the MIMO system includes: a ZF filter (21) which obtains the transmitting signal estimation values and an S/N of a specific channel with a ZF algorithm; a candidate point extractor (22) which determines candidate point number assigned to the channel based on the S/N of the specific channel, and further selects the candidate point for forming the replica of the channel based on a transmitting constellation, the transmitting signal estimation value, and the number of candidate points; a replica forming part (23) which forms the replicas of the above specific channel on the basis of the hypothesis point; and an euclidean distance operation part (24) and a minimum euclidean distance selecting/soft decision metric formation part (25) which calculates bit likelihood on the basis of the minimum euclidean distance obtained by the replicas and the actual received signal, for every channel.
