PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably produce an unsatd. glycol diester such as 1,4-diacetoxy-2- butene with high activity and high selectivity over a long period of time by using a catalyst excellent in stability of activity at the time of reacting a conjugated diene with a carboxylic acid and molecular oxygen. SOLUTION: In the solid catalyst contg. rhodium and tellurium as constituents, the ratio (Rh-Te/Rh-Rh) of the coordination number of Rh atoms in the measurement of the wide area X-ray absorption fine structure of Rh-K- edge is >=30/70. A conjugated diene is reacted with a carboxylic acid and molecular oxygen in the presence of the catalyst to produce the corresponding unsatd. glycol diester. |
