In a banknote handling device, a banknote storage cassette (60) is loaded along guide grooves in left and right side plates, whereby the bottom end of a bill press (99) interlocks with protruding members (81) of the banknote storage cassette (60), preventing the banknote storage cassette (60) from exiting the guide grooves, and, by sliding a lid (63) of the banknote storage cassette (60), accumulated banknotes which are stored therein are transferred to a mounting plate (91) while a free-sliding plate member (66) inside a storage space of the banknote storage cassette (60) presses the accumulated banknotes downward, the accumulated banknotes being separated one by one and conveyed down a transport path by a kick-out roller (94), a feeding roller (95), and a separating roller (96).
