To restrict the discharging of harmful components immediately after the starting of an internal combustion engine (1), an exhaust gas collecting apparatus (10) of an internal combustion engine comprises: a collection vessel (11) that can hold exhaust gas; an exhaust gas taking-out passage (12) through which exhaust gas is guided from an exhaust gas passage (4) to the collection vessel (11); an exhaust gas induction passage through which the exhaust gas is guided from the collection vessel (11) to the exhaust gas passage (4) at a position upstream from the catalytic converter (7); s switching valve (14) that is switchable between a position where the introduction of the exhaust gas from the exhaust gas passage to the exhaust gas taking-out passage is permitted and a position where the introduction of the exhaust gas is prevented; and an open and close valve that is switchable between a position where the introduction of the exhaust gas through the exhaust gas induction passage is permitted and a position where the introduction of the exhaust gas is prevented.
