Clutch driven plate and its manufacturing method

A method of manufacturing a steel segmented disc (13) for a clutch driven plate in which the disc (13) is blanked out to its final segmented form and is then heated to the austenitic temperature on a support fixture (30) by electrical induction heating means (32) positioned adjacent the segmented portion (20) of the blanked disc. The induction heating means are then removed from the blanked disc and the segmented portion of the disc is crimped between crimping dies (33) to corrugate the segmented portion. The segmented portion of the disc is then quenched (34) to modify the carbon structure of the segmented portion (partially to martensite and sorbite) to increase its hardness. The segmented portion of the disc is then reheated to temper the segmented portion. An apparatus for carrying out the above method is also disclosed.
