Sensor device for detecting the occupants of a vehicle

The device has a set of sensors (2) detecting electrical field strength and an electronic controlling device evaluating the detected signals. A subset of sensors is assigned to a motor vehicle seat. The sensors are assigned to a seat pan and backrest of a seat, where two of the sensors are arranged with distance next to each other in seat area. The controlling device has a unit to differentiate different occupancy states of the seat.
