The invention comprises compounds of general formula <FORM:1001354/C2/1> where lower alkyl radicals have 1-7 carbon atoms; and their preparation, as exemplified, comprising (1) esterification of corresponding acids or their reactive derivatives, (2) dehydrogenation of a corresponding dimethylcylohexanimine, (3) reaction of 2-halo-or 2-amino-benzoic esters with, respectively, amino- or halo-dimethylbenzenes, or (4) reaction of N-(2,3-dimethylphenyl)isatoic anhydride with a lower alkanol and an alkali metal alkoxide. N - (2,3 - Dimethylphenyl)anthranilic acid chloride is prepared from the acid with thionyl chloride; on reaction with the sodium salt of the acid it yields the acid anhydride. N - (o - lower-alkoxycarbonylphenyl) - 2,3-dimethylcyclohexanimine can be prepared from the anthranilic acid esters with dimethylcyclohexanone and an acidic catalyst. N - (2,3 - dimethylphenyl)anthranilic acid and its salts are obtainable by hydrolysis of the lower alkyl esters. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise compounds I with diluents and excipients. Forms for oral (tablets, pills, sachets, powders, capsules) and parenteral (solutions, suspensions) administrations are mentioned. The compounds are analgesic and anti-inflammatory.
