Procedure for applying a decorative motif to a surface e.g. of wallpaper or fabric uses deep-frozen leather offcuts, ground and mixed with a bonding agent

The motif application procedure consists of recovering leather offcuts in the form of strips (10) from a skiving process, degreasing them in a bath of a degreasing agent (11), followed by deep freezing in liquid nitrogen (12). The resultant rigid strips are ground and mixed with a thickening bonding agent (15), pigments (16), preferably water-based, and a swelling agent (17) that increases the volume of the mixture by 50 60 per cent. The mixture is then applied as a motif (21) by silk screen printing and stabilised with a varnish coating (22).
