PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform certainly a data communication by reducing an influence which gives an impulse response on a line to a pilot tone. SOLUTION: A method of controlling the communication includes the steps of computing the energy E1 of the part which exceeds the length of a cyclic prefix among the impulse responses on a communication line (ST705), based on the specific signal for which it is exchanged before the data communication; selecting the number of subcarrier which turns off the transmission power among the subcarriers which adjoin the subcarrier utilized as a pilot tone in response to the energy E1 of the part exceeding the length of this cyclic prefix (ST710, etc.); informing the number of the subcarrier which turns off this transmission power to mating ADLS modem apparatus (ST712, etc.); and performing the data communication between the mating ADSL modem apparatus using the subcarrier except the subcarrier of the number which turns off this transmission power (ST709).
