PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device having a long lifetime and capable of having a high quality display by improving superposed positioning precision of both substrates and by suppressing generation of sparks. SOLUTION: In this image display device, a plurality of island electrodes 14 are arranged at the rear face substrate 1, these island electrodes 14 are retained at prescribed potential, and opposed electrodes 172 corresponding to these island electrodes 14 are installed at the front face substrate 2, and these opposed electrodes 172 are connected to a positive electrode 17.
