PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a high squareness ratio by relaxing drying of a magnetic paint when a thin magnetic layer of≤50 nm of an upper layer is formed by a Wet on Dry system. SOLUTION: In a manufacturing method of a magnetic recording medium 10 wherein a lower non-magnetic layer 2 and the magnetic layer 3 having≤50 nm film thickness are laminated on a supporting body 1, the lower non-magnetic layer 2 is subjected to calender treatment and heat curing treatment to suppress drying speed of the magnetic layer as a step prior to a step for forming the magnetic layer 3.
