Perylene dye compounds (A) are new. Perylene dye compounds (A) of formula (I) and (II), are new. R1>-R8>H, linear 1-37C alkyl (where 1-10 CH2 groups are optionally replaced by T1>) (optionally substituted by 1-12 F, Cl, Br, I, CN or linear 1-18C-alkyl (where 1-6 CH2 groups are optionally replaced by T1>) (optionally substituted by 1-12 F, Cl, Br, I, CN or linear 1-18C-alkyl (where 1-6 CH2 groups are optionally replaced by T1>))), F, Cl, Br or I; and T1>carbonyl, O, S, Se, Te, cis or trans-CH=CH (optionally with one CH unit replaced by nitrogen), Ctriple boundC, 1,2-, 1,3- or 1,4-phenylene, 2,3-, 2,4-, 2,5-, 2,6-, 3,4- or 3,5-pyridinylene, 2,3-, 2,4-, 2,5- or 3,4-thiophenylene, 1,2-, 1,3-, 1,4-, 1,5-, 1,6-, 1,7-, 1,8-, 2,3-, 2,6- or 2,7-naphthalenylene (where 1-2 CH groups are optionally substituted by N), 1,2-, 1,3-, 1,4-, 1,5-, 1,6-, 1,7-, 1,8-, 1,9-, 1,10-, 2,3-, 2,6-, 2,7-, 2,9-, 2,10- or 9,10-anthracenylene (where 1-2 CH groups are optionally substituted by N).
