PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston structure capable of suppressing generation of NOx. SOLUTION: A plurality of grooves 7 extending in a circumferential direction of a piston are provided on a side wall part between an inner bottom surface 6 and an edge 5 of a combustion cavity 2 in the top portion of a piston 1 to expand substantial surface area near the edge which is exposed to a high temperature atmosphere. Temperature near the edge 5 is selectively dropped by making thermal energy given to the part during combustion process transmitted to the piston 1 main body part to suppress generation of NOx while avoiding thermal efficiency loss.
