PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for taking off a monofilament yarn, capable of precisely capturing a slub part (a knotty thread part) in a synthetic monofilament yarn, and capable of getting rid of the package including the slub part (the knotty thread part); and to provide a taking-off method. SOLUTION: The device for taking off the monofilament yarn has a slub-catcher with a slit having the width within the range of äthe diameter (mm) of the monofilament yarn +(0 to 0.005)} (mm) and nearly linearly continuing for≥3 mm in the traveling direction, installed in a passage position in which the monofilament having a diameter within the range of 0.019 to 0.035 mm travels nearly linearly, and is constituted so that the monofilament yarn may pass the inside of the slit.
