PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aromatic polyester having improved solubility in an aprotic solvent. SOLUTION: [1] The aromatic polyester has (A) a unit derived from an aromatic hydroxycarboxylic acid, (B) a unit derived from an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and (C) a unit derived from an aromatic amine selected from an aromatic diamine and an aromatic amine having a hydroxy group, regulated so that the content of the unit of the component (A) may be 10-30 mol%, and the contents of units of the components (B) and (C) may be each >35 mol% and≤45 mol% based on the total of the units (A) to (C). [2] The aromatic polyester contains besides them (D) a unit derived from an aromatic diol regulated so that the molar ratio (D)/(C) thereof to the unit of the component (C) may be≤0.75.
