PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stable communication system by performing precise output constant control or gain constant control in an optical amplifier system in which at least two stages of optical amplifiers are connected in multiple stages. SOLUTION: In the optical amplifier having a variable light attenuator for attenuating the output light of the optical amplifier, and an optical amplifier connected to the optical amplifier, the target value of the amount of attenuation of the variable light attenuator for controlling by a light intensity detection signal after the attenuation of light is corrected by the light intensity detection signal of the optical amplifier at a later stage. And the optical amplifier at a prestage notifies the optical amplifier at a next stage of information on spontaneous emission light (ASE) contained in output signal light, and the optical amplifier at the next stage removes the influence of the ASE from the input light intensity according to ASE information notified from the prestage.
