PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rigid polyurethane foam having favorable properties such as initial strength and adhesiveness, by improving the compatibility of a foaming agent of a fluorohydrocarbon and water, and a polyol compound and a polyisocyanate compound. SOLUTION: The process for production of the rigid polyurethane foam comprises a reaction of the polyol compound and the polyisocyanate compound in the presence of a foaming agent using water, a fluorohydrocarbon compound and a polyether compound shown by formula R<SP>1</SP>-(O-R<SP>2</SP>)<SB>n</SB>-O-R<SP>3</SP>, wherein each of R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>represents independently a 1-10C alkyl and aryl group, R<SP>2</SP>represents a 2-3C alkylene group, with the proviso that a plurality of R<SP>2</SP>'s may be the same as or different from each other and n represents an integer of 3-60, a foam stabilizer and a catalyst.
