PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a forming technique of an optical device by which a preform to be inserted into a forming mold of a pair of upper and lower molds is capable of being centered. SOLUTION: In the method of forming the optical device by inserting the preform 1 between the forming mold 2 comprising a pair of the upper mold and the lower mold and heat-pressing the forming mold 2 to transfer an optical forming surface from the forming mold 2, the preform 1 is centered in the forming mold 2 from a plurality of directions crossing the pressing direction of the forming mold 2 by a holding means and the preform 1 centered into the forming mold 2 is heat-pressed.
