An edge replacement cutting tip and a method of manufacturing the cutting tip. The edge replacement cutting tip (1) comprises a body (8), a base layer formed on the body (8), and a use state indication layer formed on a part of the base layer. The cutting tip is characterized in that at least one surface of the body (8) forms a face (2) and at least other one surface thereof forms a flank (3), the face (2) is continued to the flank (3) through an edge ridge line (4), the base layer presents a color different from that of the use state indication layer, and the use state indication layer is formed on the base layer in the entire part or the partial part of the area (A2) of the face excluding the area (A1) thereof spreading on the face from the edge ridge line by a distance of 0.2 to less than 4.0 mm.
