Two blades (6,7) are attached to a cylindrical element (5) and are moved towards the vertebrae (3,4) in order to cut grooves engaging with projections serving as locking elements for the implant. A rectangular housing (13) assembled of two parts (14,15) and provided with windows (16) at both sides is joined to an axially movable sleeve (28) and accommodates the blades (6,7) while they are guided into the space between the vertebrae (3,4).
