PURPOSE: A method for optimally mapping a code vector of a VQ code book and a QAM signal is provided to perform an image communication while minimizing an influence of a noise in an AWGN channel noise circumstance. CONSTITUTION: A code vector(Xi) and a QAM signal(Si) are randomly allotted. A change value(distortion reducing amount A(alpha,beta)) with respect to a total distortion is calculated to selected a maximal value. An alpha* and beta* are selected when the distortion reducing amount A(alpha,beta) is the maximal value and a code vector is exchanged for X alpha* and Y beta*. When the distortion reducing amount A(alpha*,beta*) is greater than a reference value, and when the distortion reducing amount A(alpha*,beta*) is less than or equal to the reference value, a total operation finishes. |
