PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intermittent protection circuit for a switching power supply device configured so as to restrict current consumption during intermittent operation. SOLUTION: A power controller 1C15 is constituted of an intermittent protection detector 21 for controlling a change in the intermittent cycle of the switching power supply device in accordance with a magnitude of a starting current, starting current generator and a PWM controller. The starting current generator includes a reference voltage generation circuit 22, a UVLO circuit 23 for erroneous-operation prevention, a starting current switching section 24, a latch circuit 25, and a starting circuit 26. The PWM controller includes a switching element Q1, a driver circuit 27, an AND gate AND1, a flip flop FF2, a comparator PWM, an oscillator OSC, and a soft start circuit 28.
