A backlight assembly includes a receiving container and a light source. The receiving container includes a bottom plate having a lower face and an opposing upper face, a sidewall part, and a plurality of light property controlling parts having a substantially wedge shaped cross-section, which extend substantially parallel to a pair of first sidewalls of the sidewall part. The light source is disposed between adjacent light property controlling parts, and the light source is received by the receiving container. The backlight assembly may increase the brightness and brightness-uniformity of light.
