The invention relates to a safety device comprising the functional combination of two elements, namely a first element which is designed to be positioned in the mouth of the motor vehicle fuel tank and a second element which is designed to be placed at the tip the fuel hose at a service station. In addition, each of said elements is equipped with dovetail coupling means having a polygonal configuration that is specific to each type of fuel. In this way, it is not possible for a vehicle to be filled with a fuel other than that which it is designed to take, for example, a vehicle with a diesel engine cannot be filled by mistake with petrol or vice versa.
