<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of avoiding print delays due to color calibration, thereby achieving a printing system that is easy for a monochrome mode user to use, and to provide an image forming apparatus that has a printing system and a calibration method. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a plurality of process cartridges 10 arranged parallel to one another, each process cartridge 10 integrating an image carrier 1 holding a toner image on it and a developing means 4 acting on the image carrier 1. The image forming apparatus is capable of switching between a monochrome mode for forming images in a single color mode and a multiple-color mode for forming images in multiple colors. The image forming apparatus is provided with an image quality calibrating means, and a means for storing the number of prints or printing time in each mode.
