PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain mold clamping accuracy by performing the support of the movable platen and the fixed platen of a mold clamping apparatus by both sides of the platen bodies thereby to decrease thermal deformation of the platen bodies due to heat transfer from the mold and prevent distortion and bend of the platen bodies. SOLUTION: In a horizontal mold clamping apparatus comprising a fixed platen and a pressure receiving platen which, being linked by tie bars, are oppositely installed on the machine base, a movable platen installed between both the platens to be capable of free advance and retreat, a mold clamping means of a hydraulic cylinder or a toggle mechanism which is installed over the movable platen and the pressure receiving platen, and guide means of the movable platen, the guide means are installed to both sides of the platen body, the operation side and the non-operation side, of the movable platen. The guide portions of the guide means of both the sides are arranged with different heights attached.
