PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive, simple and industrial method with which anαβtype isomer such as 1,3-DMN (dimethylnaphthalene) can stably be separated from a mixture of DMN isomers in high purity and yield. SOLUTION: The method for separating the DMN isomers is carried out as follows. A raw material oil containing the mixture of DMN isomers composed of theααtype isomer, theαβtype isomer and theββtype isomer together with a developing solvent is passed through an adsorption layer A composed of mordenite type zeolite and the liquid passing through the adsorption layer A is passed through an adsorption layer B composed of Y type zeolite. An eluent solvent is then passed through the adsorption layer B to separate theαβtype isomer of the DMN from the resultant eluate solution. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
