The sensor has at least two optical beam emitting transmitters (2a,b,c), a location resolution, beam receiver (5) and an analysis unit (8) to generate an object determination signal. The transmitters are arranged at different distances from the receiver (5) such that the beam axes are at least approx. parallel and the level of the beams can be freely set. The analysis unit evaluates the received signals to define a sample value with a threshold.
