<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hard disk expansion apparatus and hard disk drive with high safety that can prevent data, which are stored in a secondary storage device such as a removable hard disk or the like, from unjustly flowing out or being plagiarized. <P>SOLUTION: The removable hard disk expansion apparatus with an expansion slot in a printer includes: an expansion slot controller for transmitting and receiving data; an expansion apparatus controller for controlling the expansion apparatus; an EEPROM storing the permission/non-permission of removing the expansion apparatus; an input means for entering a password by a user into the printer; and a battery. The expansion apparatus controller is removed by confirming a permission flag of EEPROM when it is detected that the expansion apparatus is removed from the printer.
