<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image processor capable of realizing toner saving with a simple configuration while minimizing degradation of color reproducibility. <P>SOLUTION: A first color space conversion section 4 of the color image processor converts RGB image data obtained by scanning an original with a CCD 1 from an RGB color space into a Lab color space. Then a second image processing section 5 discriminates whether or not the mode of the color image processing apparatus is a toner saving mode, carries out image processing such as background correction and color correction as required when the mode is not the toner saving mode (in the case of the ordinary mode), and converts the Lab color space into a CMYK color space. On the other hand, when the mode is the toner saving mode, the second image processing section 5 adopts a greater (brighter) L (lightness) component than the ordinary case in the image processing such as the background correction and the color correction, and a second color space conversion section 6 converts the Lab color space into the CMYK color space. Succeedingly, a binary unit 7 applies binary processing to the image data whose color space is converted into the CMYK color space and provides an output of the processed image data to a printer 8. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
